Wordle Bulletin #711 (May 31, 2023) — “Tired of 4s!”

Today’s Wordle:
Target Word
: AGILE (NonTypical3 vowels, no compound/ paired consonants) [typical – 2 vowels, 1 compound/paired consonant]
# Of Guesses: 3.7 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru.

Seed Word: ROATE: first word of the triad – ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
What we learned from the Seed Word: Two vowels – E in the 5th position and A but not its position. Since most of the Wordle words have two vowels, I didn’t need to search for additional vowels.

2nd Guess: LANCH: Since we didn’t need to search for additional vowels, I chose not to use SULCI (2nd word of the triad) as the 2nd guess. Instead, I chose LANCH in order to test the presence of 4 high frequency consonants and possibly confirm the position of the letter A. At this stage 9 possibilities including 2 sets of orthographic neighbor words – ADDLE, AGILE, AISLE, ALGAE, [ALIKE, ALIVE], [AMBLE/AMPLE, APPLE]. It was time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.

3rd Word:  Today, I could not think of a word that would have eliminated 8 of the 9 possibilities.  So, I had to look for the second-best option. I always prefer to use one of the possibilities as an elimination word if it makes sense.  The reason is that once in a while the word I choose from the list of possibilities happens to be the target word.  Today it was not possible.

I chose GIMPS as the elimination word. It did the job and lead me to the target word – AGILE. Had GIMPS not worked, I was looking at a score of 5 or higher.

Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in my favor. 😊
