Wordle Bulletin # 478 (October 10, 2022)
Today’s Wordle proves that WordleGuru is only human and not infallible!
Target Word: ENJOY
Typical Wordle Word Construct: 2 Vowels and one or more compound consonants (seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: Almost Typical; 2 vowels (E and O) and 1 “quasi-vowel (Y); One compound consonant (NV)
# Of Guesses: 4.6 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*; 5 for WordleGuru ☹
Seed Word: TRACE
Seed Word Revelations: E but not its correct place
# Of Possible Solutions after the Seed Word: Too many to count!
Second Word: SOUPY
Primary Objective for the 2nd word: Test for additional 3 vowels (O, U and Y) and 2 high frequency consonants (in this case S and P)
Revelations from the 2nd word: 2 vowels (O and Y); Y in its exact position; No consonants
# Of Possible Solutions after the 2nd word: 3 – EBONY, and 2 orthographic neighbors (ENJOY and ENVOY), potentially causing trouble
EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: It was one of the easiest deployments possible since we were dealing with only 3 possibilities. The choice of potential elimination word was crystal clear – either of the orthographic pairs would have done the job. Also, we were given an opportunity to use one of the possibilities as the elimination word, giving us a chance to solve the puzzle in 3 guesses, with the worst case being 4 guesses.
Sadly, I chose the wrong word (EBONY) that could not eliminate either of the two orthographic neighbors (ENJOY and ENVOY).
After this “dumb headed” move, I fell into the enumeration trap. I chose ENVOY as the 4th guess. The target word was ENJOY. ☹
Learning/Re-learning: Do not act in a rush; stare at the entry before pressing the ENTER key.
Final thoughts: It wasn’t my day. No one to blame but myself for the dumb-headed move. I can’t pin the blame on LadyLuck or WordleGod. Victory was within my reach. I snatched defeat from the jaws of victory! **IT happens!
