Wordle Bulletin # 498 (October 30, 2022)

My strategy is built to ensure I solve 95% of the puzzles in 4 guesses or less.
It is not built to always shoot for the lowest score possible.
The score depends a lot on the seed word.
Wordle is a game of luck and skill.

Target Word: WALTZ
Typical Wordle Word Construct
: 2 Vowels and one compound/paired consonant (2 letters or 3 letters; seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: A-Typical; 1 vowel (A), 1 Compound consonant (3 letters LTZ)
# Of Guesses: 4.5 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*; 3 for WordleGuru

Seed Word: LATER; I have been using SOARE as the seed word;  I decided to try a seed word with only 2 vowels.
Seed Word Revelations:
1 vowel (A) in the 2nd position; 2 consonants (L and T) but not their positions
# Of Possible Solutions after the seed word: 10 including 2 sets of orthographic neighbor words; The 10 are – LAITY, WALTZ, [FAULT, VAULT], SALTY, [TALKY, TALLY], TALON, TABLE, and VALET. In view of the “small” number of possibilities, it was time to deploy the EnotE strategy.

Second Word: BUSTY; The elimination word I chose after a lot of deliberation is BUSTY.  It did the job and led to the target word – WALTZ.

EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: EnotE strategy worked beautifully today.

Final thoughts:  Wordle is a game of luck and skill. So much depends on the seed word.  My usual seed word (SOARE) would only have revealed A, but not its position.  LadyLuck was on my side today.

Statistics corner: W and Z are one of the lowest frequency letters (in the Wordle words thru #498 – 1.7% and 0.4% respectively)
