Wordle Bulletin #672 (April 22, 2023) — “A 5!*&#$”
Note: I am testing a new scheme starting with puzzle #669. Until now the first two words of the triad represented the 10 most frequent letters (STARE/COLIN/PUDGY or ALTER/SONIC/PUDGY). The 3rd word of the triad excluded the 12th most frequent letter (H) in favor of the 16th most frequent letter (G). I want to change the triad to include H. The new triad is CHAOS/TIMER/DUPLY. The first two words of the triad include H and M (12th and 17th most frequent) and exclude L and N (6th and 9th most frequent). I will give this triad at least 30 days for testing before making a judgement.
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: BROKE
# Of Guesses: 4.0 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*,5 for WordleGuru. ☹
Seed Word: CHAOS – Testing a new scheme, as described above.
What we learned from the Seed Word: One vowel (O), but not its position.
2nd word: TIMER: (2nd word of the new triad – CHAOS/TIMER/DUPLY). It revealed 1 consonant (R) and 1 vowel (E), but not their positions. At this stage too many possibilities, need more revelation/elimination.
3rd word: PLONG: Considering the possibilities after the 2nd word, since two vowels were already revealed (O and E), I decided to not use the third word of the triad (DUPLY) since it looks for additional vowels U and Y. I came up with PLONG as the alternative. It confirmed the position of the vowel “O” (3rd spot). At this stage 4 possibilities — BROKE, DROVE, ERODE, and FROZE. It was time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
4th word: VIBED: I prefer to use one of the possible words as an elimination word if it makes sense. Such a move affords the possibility of solving this puzzle in 4 guesses. But since neither of the four possibilities would have served as an elimination word, I had to find a different one. I chose VIBED as the elimination word. It did the job and led to the target word – BROKE.
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today was not a lucky day for me. The new triad proved to be not very effective vs. today’s target word. ☹
