Wordle Bulletin #697 (May17, 2023) — “A 4 was expected, after a string of 3’s!” 😊
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: PLANK (A-Typical – 1 vowel, 2 compound consonants)
# Of Guesses: 3.6 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru ☹
Seed Word: ROATE: first word of the triad – ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
What we learned from the Seed Word: Presence of 1 vowel (A) in the 3rd position. Since most of the Wordle words have 2 vowels, we needed to search for additional vowels.
2nd Word: SULCI: 2nd word of the triad. It revealed the presence of a consonant (L) but not its position. At this stage 12 possibilities, including several orthographic neighbor words. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
3rd Word: I could not come up with one word to eliminate 11 of the 12 possibilities. The second-best alternative that came to my mind is BLING. It eliminated 10 of the 12, leaving me with FLANK, and PLANK. In my judgment, PLANK is used more often than FLANK. Luckily it worked. I won the coin toss today.
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in my corner. I won the coin toss. 😊
