Wordle Bulletin #719 (June 8, 2023) — “Can’t shake loose from orthographic neighborhood words!”
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: CRUMB (Non–Typical – 1 vowel, 2 compound/ paired consonants) [typical – 2 vowels, 1 compound/paired consonant]
# Of Guesses: 3.7 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru. ☹
Seed Word: ALTER: first word of the triad – ALTER/SONIC/PUDGY.
What we learned from the Seed Word: It revealed no vowels and 1 consonant (T), but not its position. Since we didn’t reveal any vowels, we needed to search for them.
2nd Word: SONIC: Used the 2nd word of the triad. It revealed no vowels and only 1 consonant (C) but not its position. At this stage 5 possibilities, including 2 sets of orthographic neighbor words – [CURRY, CURVY, CURDY] and [CRUMP, CRUMB]. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
3rd Word: DERBY: I could not come up with one word that would eliminate four of the five. So, I had to look for the second-best alternative. I chose DERBY. It did the job. 😊 Had it not worked, I was looking at a score of 5 or 6.
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in my favor. 😊
It is rare for the first 2 words to not reveal any vowels.
