Wordle Bulletin #727 (June 16, 2023) — “STRAPped in a 4!”
Typical Wordle: 2 vowels (counting Y as the sixth vowel), 1 compound (ex KN)/paired consonant (ex NN)
Today’s Wordle: STRAP (A-Typical)
NYT WordleBot average score: 3.5 (per Marc McLaren*)
WordleGuru score: 4 ☹
Seed Word: ALTER: the first word of the triad – ALTER/SONIC/PUDGY.
2nd Word: SONIC: the second word of the triad. [spacer height=”20px”]
Reason for selection: Typical Wordle word has 2 vowels; the seed word revealed only 1 vowel.
What we learned: 6 possible answers, including 2 sets of orthographic neighbor words – [STARK, START/SMART], [STRAP, STRAW, STRAY]
Next step: Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
3rd word (Elimination word): WIMPY: could not come up with one word to eliminate 5 of the 6 possibilities. The second-best alternative – WIMPY
What we learned: WIMPY led to the answer – STRAP.
Had WIMPY not worked: We would have had to decide between START and STARK as the 4th guess. The score could have been a 5, if the first choice between START and STARK was not the target word.
