Wordle Bulletin # 493 (October 25, 2022)
My strategy is built to ensure I solve 95% of the puzzles in 4 guesses or less.
It is not built to always shoot for the lowest score possible.
The score depends a lot on the seed word.
Wordle is a game of luck and skill.
Target Word: FOGGY
Typical Wordle Word Construct: 2 Vowels and one compound/paired consonant (2 letters or 3 letters; seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: Typical; 2 vowels (O and Y), 1 paired consonant (GG)

Seed Word: SOARE
Seed Word Revelations: 1 vowel (O), in the 2nd position; no consonants. ☹
# Of Possible Solutions after the Seed Word: Too many
Second Word: UNITY; most of the Wordle words have 2 vowels. Therefore, I needed to search for the second vowel, if there is one. The standard go to word for this is UNITY (after SOARE as the seed word).
Revelations from the 2nd word: one vowel (Y) in the 5th position; no consonants. ☹
# Of Possible Solutions after the Second Word: >25. I had to start employing my EnotE strategy. No single word would have eliminated all but 1. So, the objective is to select one that would eliminate the most. This is not a scientific exercise rather depends on judgment and gutfeel.
Third word: CLOMP; I chose CLOMP as the elimination word. It did work effectively as it narrowed the choice down to 9 words, a few of which are informal words. The nine words are – [HOBBY, GOBBY, BOBBY], [BOGGY, FOGGY, DOGGY], [HOWDY, DOWDY] and DODGY. As you can see, there are 3 sets of orthographic neighbor words, making life difficult. I always prefer to use one of the possibilities as an elimination word. Since out of the nine, none would have eliminated eight, I had to do a round 2 of the EnotE strategy with a different word. I chose BUDGE as the 2nd elimination word (4th guess).
Fourth Word: BUDGE; it did the job and led me to the target word – FOGGY.
EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: This Wordle is a good example of the power of the EnotE strategy, although we had to deploy it twice. The outcome of a Wordle depends a lot on the seed word. Also, orthographic neighbor words add a dose of complexity.
Final thoughts: A tricky Wordle. WordleGod seems to like paired consonants. Two days ago he chose Mummy, today FOGGY. Seed word basically sets the ultimate score.
