Wordle Bulletin #629 (March 10, 2023) — “A tricky one with 3 orthographic neighbor words!”

Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: REVEL
# Of Guesses:
4.6 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru 😊

Typical or atypical target word? — Atypical, it contains 2 instances of the same vowel (E, E) but no compound consonant. The “norm” is 2 vowels and 1 compound/paired consonant.

Seed Word: STARE – The “go-to” seed word starting March 8, 2023.
What we learned from the Seed Word: The seed word revealed 2 letters (R and E) but not their positions. Too many possibilities at this stage.  Need more discovery.

2nd word: CHOIL
(the 2nd word of the triad STARE/CHOIL/PUDGY): Used CHOIL and it revealed L in the 5th position.  Five possibilities at this stage – BERYL, GRUEL, [REPEL, REVEAL, REBEL]. I discounted the first two since I believed they are not very commonly used.  Needed to deploy the EnotE© strategy to determine which of the three orthographic neighbor words is the target word.

3rd word: BREVE – This word eliminated 4 of the 5 possibilities and led me to the target word – REVEL.

Final thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in neutral.

My gutfeel was directing me to REBEL. I avoided the temptation since it proved not to be the target word. The next word (4th) was a coin toss between REVEL and REPEL. Had REPEL won the coin toss, my score would have been a 5! Going the elimination route, my score was a 4. This shows the advantage of the EnotE© strategy.
