Wordle Bulletin #651 (April 1, 2023) — “Oh yes, a 3 – No April Fool!”
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: MARCH
# Of Guesses: 3.6 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 3 for WordleGuru 😊
Seed Word: STARE – The “go-to” seed word starting March 8, 2023.
What we learned from the Seed Word: The seed word revealed 1 consonant (R), and 1 vowel (A) but not their positions. Too many possibilities at this stage. Need more exploration.
2nd word: CHOIL: my “go-to” triad is STARE/COLIN/PUDGY. By mistake, I entered CHOIL instead of COLIN. I have used CHOIL with STARE and PUDGY in the past. COLIN would have resulted in 2 possibilities — PARCH and MARCH instead of 3 with CHOIL (RANCH in addition to PARCH and MARCH). Even with COLIN, we would have had to deal with two orthographic neighbor words!
It was time to deploy the EnotE© strategy. I like to use one of the possibilities as an elimination word if it makes sense. This gives a chance to solve the puzzle with the elimination word. Today PARCH and MARCH both met the criterion for elimination word. I chose the right one!
The seed word (STARE) and the second word (COLIN) represent the 10 most frequent letters in the Wordle-words to-date. The 3rd word (PUDGY) represents 5 of the next 6 highest frequency letters (11-16).
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was on my side. It could easily have required one more guess. 😊
