Wordle Bulletin # 502 (November 3, 2022)
My strategy is built to ensure I solve 95% of the puzzles in 4 guesses or less.
It is not built to always shoot for the lowest score possible.
The score depends a lot on the seed word.
Wordle is a game of luck and skill.
Target Word: ALOUD
Typical Wordle Word Construct: 2 Vowels and one compound/paired consonant (2 letters or 3 letters; seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: A- Typical; 3 Vowels (A, O and U), no compound consonant
# Of Guesses: 3.5 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*; 4 for WordleGuru
Seed Word: SALET; I am rotating the seed word among words with two vowels. These are. ALERT, SALET, ROAST, and LOSER.
Seed Word Revelations: one vowel (A) and one consonant (L) but not their positions.
# Of Possible Solutions after the seed word: too many
Second Word: RHINO; I needed to search for additional vowels. Since U is the lowest frequency vowel, I chose not to include it in the second word. I had a hunch that there is not Y.
Second Word Revelations: 1 vowel (O) but not its position; no consonant
# Of Possible Solutions after the second word: There were 15 possible answers after the second guess, including one set of orthographic neighbor words. These are [VOCAL, LOCAL, FOCAL], AGLOW, ALOOF, CLOAK, KOALA, LOYAL, MOOLA, ALLOW, FOCAL, LOAMY, LOOFA, MODAL, and OFFAL. It was time to deploy the EnotE strategy.

EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: I could not come up with a word that would eliminate 14 of the 15. So, I had to go for an effective alternate. I chose FLOCK. It did the job and led me to the target word of today-ALOUD

Final thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. So much depends on the seed word. There was no scope of a score of 3 today. LadyLuck was on the fence today since I was able to solve the puzzle in 4 guesses. WordleGod was also on the friendly side, since the answer was not part of an orthographic neighbor words.

Statistics corner: Frequency of 3 vowels (exc. Y) is about 10%.
