As you must know by now, I have stopped publishing a daily bulletin. Instead, I will be publishing a short article highlighting nuggets related to the recent Wordles. As one of the “unpublished” rules of Wordle, the past tense of verbs ending in the letters ED are not included in the universe of the target words (there are altogether 2,315 such words).

As a companion rule, the past tense of words that don’t end in the letters ED are allowed. One example os such word is RAN (the past tense of the verb to-RUN).

A small universe of words that are past tense of verbs are also used as adjectives.  Such words are allowed. One example is FRIED (the past tense of the verb to-FRY).  This was the target word for Wordle # 966 (February 10, 2024). An example as an adjective is FRIED chicken.

There have only been 4 target words ending in ED through Wordle #825. These are TWEED, BLEED, STEED, and UNFED.  None of the four is the past tense of a verb!

In that sense, the word FRIED started a new line of Wordle target words.
