Wordle Bulletin # 506 (November 7, 2022)

My strategy is built to ensure I solve 95% of the puzzles in 4 guesses or less. It is not built to always shoot for the lowest score possible. The score depends a lot on the seed word. Wordle is a game of luck and skill.

Target Word: BEGIN
Typical Wordle Word Construct: 2 Vowels and one compound/paired consonant (2 letters or 3 letters; seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: A-Typical; 2 Vowels (E and I), NO compound consonant
# Of Guesses:  4.0 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*; 4 for WordleGuru

Seed Word: STYLE; I am rotating the seed word among my go-to words with two vowels. These are. ALERT/LATER /ALTER (anagrams), SALET/LEAST, ROAST, LOSER, STORE, STILE/TILES, STYLE, and TIRES/TIERS
Seed Word Revelations: No consonant, 1 vowel (E) but not its exact position ☹
# Of Possible Solutions after the seed word: too many

Second Word: RANCH; Since the seed word revealed the presence of only 1 vowel, I needed to search for additional vowel(s).
Second Word Revelations: 1 consonant but not its exact position, no vowels ☹
# Of Possible Solutions after the seed word: 22; it was time to deploy the EnotE strategy.

Third Word: UNFIX; It was impossible to eliminate all but one with a single word. I selected the second best (based on my best analytics) UNFIX as the elimination word. It did the job and led me to the target word – BEGIN. LadyLuck was on my side.  Fortunately, WordleGod was not watching. Things could easily have unraveled.

EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: Deployed right after the second word.  It worked beautifully!  Led me to the target word!! 😊

Final thoughts:  Wordle is a game of luck and skill. So much depends on the seed word.  I selected STYLE based on the observation that roughly 1 out of 5 times, the last letter is a Y.  I had not seen a Y for the last 5 words.  I should have also noticed that Y was the 5th letter for Wordles #499 and 500.  In that sense, Y was not due for another appearance.  STYLE is not an effective word.  I won’t be using it again.
