Wordle Bulletin #659 (April 9, 2023) — “Not a regularly used word today!”

Today’s Wordle:
Target Word
: SNAFU
# Of Guesses:
3.9 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru

Seed Word: STARE – The “go-to” seed word starting March 8, 2023.
What we learned from the Seed Word: The seed word revealed one consonant (S) and one vowel (A) in the first and second positions. Too many possibilities at this stage. Need more exploration.

2nd word: COLIN: (2nd word in my “go-to” triad – STARE/COLIN/PUDGY). It revealed one consonant (N), but not its position.  At this stage 6 possibilities – [SPANK, SHANK, SKANK, and SWANK], and SNAFU Time to deploy the EnotE © strategy.

3rd word: SHANK: I could not think of a single word that would have been 100% effective as an elimination word. I like to use one of the possible words as an elimination word, if it makes sense. Sometimes I do get lucky — the elimination word happens to be the target word. I used SHANK based on my judgment of frequency of use. It led me to the answer, luckily. I may have had to make one more guess, otherwise.

The seed word (STARE) and the second word (COLIN) represent the 10 most frequent letters in the Wordle-words to-date. The 3rd word (PUDGY) represents 5 of the next 6 highest frequency letters (11-16).

Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was not a major factor, either way.
