Wordle Bulletin #680 (April 30, 2023) — “As expected another 4 after a string of 3s (regression to the mean)”

Note: Today is the 5th day of using my tried-and-true triad — ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.

Today’s Wordle:
Target Word
: PLAZA
# Of Guesses 4.3
WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru. 😐

Seed Word: ROATE
What we learned from the Seed Word: presence of A in the 3rd position.

2nd word: SULCI: the second word of the triad ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.   It revealed the presence of L, but not its position. Nine possibilities at this stage including three sets of orthographic neighbor words – [GLAND, BLAND], [FLANK, BLANK, PLANK], [PLAYA, PLAZA], FLAKY, and LLAMA. Need to deploy the EnotE© strategy.

3rd word: PLUNK: I like to use one of the possibilities as an elimination word if it makes sense. Today it didn’t. After a lengthy deliberation I chose PLUNK as the elimination word. Couldn’t think of an elimination word that would have eliminated eight of the nine. PLUNK left me with two possibilities- PLAYA and PLAZA.

4th word: PLAZA: Looking at the frequency chart, I discovered that there has not been a Y in the fourth position ever (through March 24, 2023)!  I chose PLAZA hoping that this situation (No Y in the 4th position) would continue.  It did! Lucky me!! 😊

Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in my favor with PLAZA as the target word.  😊
