Wordle Bulletin #698 (May18, 2023) — “Back to a 3!” 😊

Today’s Wordle:
Target Word
: SHORN (A-Typical – 1 vowel, 2 compound consonants)
# Of Guesses: 4 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 3 for WordleGuru 😊

Seed Word: ROATE: first word of the triad – ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
What we learned from the Seed Word: Presence of 1 vowel (O) and 1 consonant (R), but not their positions.  Since most of the Wordle words have 2 vowels, we needed to search for additional vowels.

2nd Word: SULCI: 2nd word of the triad.  It revealed the presence of a consonant (S) in the first position.  At this stage 3 possibilities, including two sets of orthographic neighbor words — [SWORN, SWORD], and [SHORN/SWORN]. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.

3rd Word: I prefer to choose one of the possibilities as the elimination word if it makes sense.  Today it did.  I chose SHORN based on frequency data.  The pair SH is 2x more frequent than SW. The pairs RD and RN are about the same, frequency wise.  Also, H in 2nd position is 3.5 x more frequent than W in the 2nd position.  Luckily it worked.  I won the lottery today.

Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in my corner. I won the three-sided coin toss. 😊
