Wordle Bulletin # 468 (September 30, 2022)

Target Word: SCORN
Typical Wordle Word Construct
: 2 Vowels and one or more compound consonants (seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: Atypical; 1 vowel (O) and 2 compound consonants (SC and RN)
# Of Guesses required: 3 .6 per NYT’s WordleBot via Marc McLaren*; 3 for WordleGuru
Seed Word SOARE
Seed Word Revelations:1 vowel (O) but not its position; 2 consonants (S and R) both in the exact positions
Second Word: THROW There were 13 possible answers after the 2nd guess grouped in 5 orthographic neighbor sets (example SCORN, SHORN).
Primary Objective for the 2nd word: Deploy the EnotE (Eliminate not Enumerate) strategy i.e., find a word that would eliminate 12 of the 13 possibilities.  I could only come up with a word to eliminate 11 of the 13 possibilities. The 2 words left uncovered were SCORN and SPORK.
Since SPORK is a portmantua of spoon and fork, I didn’t think it would be part of the Wordle’s lexicon. So that leaves SCORN and indeed that’s the target word for today!  😊
Final thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill.  LadyLuck was on my side, just like yesterday. EnotE strategy worked beautifully.
