Wordle bulletin – Week of October 9, ‘23 (10/9-10/15) (#842-#847)

Wordle #848 (October 15, 023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.2
Triad: SOARE/CLINT/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: after the seed word, I chose a non-triad second word since the seed word had revealed two vowels, and my priority was to reveal as many consonants as possible. After the second guess (LETCH), two possibilities- LEAFY and LEAKY. Based on frequency and usage characteristics, selected LEAKY and it worked, thankfully. 😊

Tactics for today’s Wordle: after the first two words of the triad, only one possibility. 😊😊😊😊😊

Wordle #844 (October 11, 023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.2
Triad: SOARE/CLINT/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: I chose a different word (UNTIL) for the second guess instead of the one in the triad (CLINT) since the seed word didn’t reveal any vowels. At this point 5 possibilities – SUNUP, SKUNK, SPUNK, SUNNY, and SWUNG. I discarded SWUNG since it is the past tense of the verb SWING. I also discarded SUNUP as not being a common word. Of the remaining 3, SKUNK and SPUNK both could serve as valid elimination words.  Structure wise, both are very similar (two compound consonants), but SKUNK also has two instances of the letter “K”, making it a “special” word.   Wordle sometimes favors “special” words. So, I chose it as the elimination word. Luckily it was the target word today.😊

Wordle #843 (October 10, 023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.3
Triad: SOARE/CLINT/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: I chose not to use the second word of the triad.  I made a mistake in choosing the second word.  I reused a letter (R) that was already ruled out by the seed word (LINTY or TINLY would have been a better choice). Anyway, it led me to a score of 4. After the second guess there were five answers, two not very common   – SPAIN, SLAIN, SWAIN, SWAMI, and SLAIN. I chose SLAIN as the elimination word and it did the job. Had I not made the mistake, my score would have been a sure three.

WordleBot told me that no one else used the second guess I used – NOBODY and for the right reasons. ☹

Wordle #842 (October 9, 023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.6
Triad: SOARE/CLINT/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: after the first two words of the triad, three possibilities- TRUTH, TRUMP, and THRUM. Relying on frequency and usage, picked TRUTH and it proved to be the answer. 😊
