Wordle Bulletin # 618 (February 27, 2023) — “Four? Oh not again!”

Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: WORSE
# Of Guesses: 4.4 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru.

Typical or atypical target word? — Typical, it contains 2 vowels (O and E) and 1 compound consonant (RS). The “norm” is 2 vowels and 1 compound/paired consonant.

Seed Word: ALERT – “go-to” seed word.
What we learned from the Seed Word: The seed word revealed two letters (R an E), but not their positions.

2nd word: SONIC (the “go-to” 2nd word);
It revealed the presence of O in the 2nd position and S without its position. 5 possibilities at this stage — [HORSE, WORSE], MORES, POSER and ROUSE. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy. My gutfeel was leading me to WORSE. Regretfully, it would not have eliminated 4 of the 5 possibilities.  So, playing conservatively, I picked MORPH as the elimination word.

3rd word: MORPH – it eliminated 4 of the 5 possibilities and led me to the answer – WORSE.

Final thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill.   Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was neutral.

Incidentally, my gut feel was right for the last 3 Wordles including today’s.
