Wordle Bulletin #707 (May 27, 2023) — “A hard earned 3 today!”

Today’s Wordle:
Target Word
: RAMEN (Not Typical – 2 vowels, 0 compound/ paired consonant) [typical – 2 vowels, 1 compound/paired consonant]
# Of Guesses: 4.1 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 3 for WordleGuru 😊

Seed Word: ROATE: first word of the triad – ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
What we learned from the Seed Word: Presence of R in the first position and 2 vowels (A and E) but not their positions.  Since most of the Wordle words have 2 vowels, I didn’t need to search for additional vowels.

2nd Guess: LYNCH: Since we didn’t need to search for additional vowels, I chose not to use SULCI (2nd word of the triad) as the 2nd guess. Instead, I chose LYNCH in order to test the presence of 4 high frequency consonants. It revealed 1 consonant (N) but not its position. At this stage 3 possibilities including 2 orthographic neighbor words – [RAMEN, RAVEN] and RERAN. LUNCH too would have worked instead of LYNCH.

I discounted RERAN since I didn’t think it is used often. So, the choice came down to the two orthographic neighbor words (damn) i.e.  RAMEN and RAVEN. I Looked at the frequency of the letters M and V.  Their frequency in the third position is the same but their frequency anywhere in the word favors the letter M. So, I took a chance on it and luckily for me it worked. Dodged a bullet. 😊

Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in my favor. 😊
