Wordle Bulletin # 495 (October 27, 2022)

My strategy is built to ensure I solve 95% of the puzzles in 4 guesses or less.
It is not built to always shoot for the lowest score possible.
The score depends a lot on the seed word.
Wordle is a game of luck and skill.

Target Word: CARRY
Typical Wordle Word Construct
: 2 Vowels and one compound/paired consonant (2 letters or 3 letters; seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: Typical; 2 vowels (A and Y), 1 paired consonant (RR)
# Of Guesses: 4 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*; 4 for WordleGuru

Seed Word: SOARE
Seed Word Revelations:
1 vowel (A), but not its position; one consonant (R) in 4th position
# Of Possible Solutions after the Seed Word: Too many

Second Word: UNITY; most of the Wordle words have 2 vowels.  Therefore, I needed to search for the second vowel, if there is one.  My standard go to word for this is UNITY (to go with SOARE)

Revelations from the 2nd word: one vowel (Y) in the 5th position
# Of Possible Solutions after the Second Word: 4 orthographic neighbor words (CARRY, HARRY, MARRY, and PARRY). I didn’t think PARRY or HARRY is the answer, so I’m left with just the two – CARRY and MARRY. I decided to play conservatively and used an elimination word as the third guess – CHAMP. It led me to the answer-CARRY

EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: Was relatively easy to apply.

Final thoughts:  I could have taken a bit more risk based upon my gutfeel and frequency distribution of the starting letter. The letter “C” is the second most frequent starting letter. I should have entered CARRY as the third guess. In the case this is not the target word, I won’t have been worse off than what my score is using EOE Strategy (4). In this case if CARRY had not been the answer, I would have entered MARRY as my fourth guess.  A Lost opportunity to score a three.
