Wordle Bulletin # 494 (October 26, 2022)

My strategy is built to ensure I solve 95% of the puzzles in 4 guesses or less.
It is not built to always shoot for the lowest score possible.
The score depends a lot on the seed word.
Wordle is a game of luck and skill.

Target Word: FLOUT
Typical Wordle Word Construct
: 2 Vowels and one compound/paired consonant (2 letters or 3 letters; seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: Typical; 2 vowels (O and U), 1 compound consonant (FL)
# Of Guesses: 3.5 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*; 3 for WordleGuru

Seed Word: SOARE
Seed Word Revelations:
1 vowel (O), but not its position; no consonants. ☹
# Of Possible Solutions after the Seed Word: Too many

Second Word: TUNIC; most of the Wordle words have 2 vowels.  Therefore, I needed to search for the second vowel, if there is one.  My standard go to word for this is UNITY (to go with SOARE) but I decided to mix it up today. Based on frequency data, I found that the frequency of vowels O and Y in the same word is smaller than that of OA, OE, and OU. I debated between TULIP and TUNIC. The advantage of these two words is that they have 3 consonants vs. 2 in UNITY.  I could have gone with either of the two but chose TUNIC based on the frequency data.
Revelations from the 2nd word:
one vowel (U) and one consonant (T), but not their exact positions.
# Of Possible Solutions after the Second Word: Only one, the target word – FLOUT 😊

EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: Was not needed today.

Final thoughts:  After a string of 4’s and 5’s, I was due for a 3 – regression to the mean.

Probability vs Possibility:
The probability of a Wordle word starting with an “F” is only 7.5%, which equates to 1 out of 13 times.  The last 3 Wordle words including today’s (FAULT, FOGGY, and FLOUT) started with an “F”! If we include the word on the 14th of October (FLOOR), we had Wordle words start with an “F” 4 times out of 13 vs. expected 1 time out of 13!  This is the classic “Possible” vs. Probable” parable.
