Wordle Bulletin – Week of August 14 (8/14-8/20) (#786-#792) – Wordle Guru

Wordle #792 (August 20, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.9 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the seed word 13 possible solutions. Based on those, I chose a different second word than the 2nd word of the triad – INCUR not RHINO. After the 2nd word. just three possibilities- QUEST, GUEST, and UPSET.  All three met my two rules, i.e.  2 vowels and 1 compound consonant. My gut feel was driving me towards QUEST.  The reason being in the last 10 or so Wordles, they have chosen words with low frequency consonants such as Q, X, W, etc.

Both QUEST and GUEST would have served as good elimination words; UPSET would not have. I chose QUEST since it was favored by my gut feel.  Luckily it proved to be the answer. 😊

Wordle #791 (August 19, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.9 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the first two words, 17 possibilities. Chose the third word of the triad as the elimination word. It almost did the job leaving me with only two possibilities – MAGMA and GAMMA. Neither the frequency data nor my two rules helped decide between the two options. I chose MAGMA, since GAMMA is a character in a foreign language (Greek).  Luckily it proved to be the answer. 😊

Wordle #790 (August 18, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.8 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the seed word, seven possibilities. It was time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.  My gutfeel was pointing to one of the seven possibilities as the answer.  Interestingly, it was a good elimination word as well. So, I wasn’t taking a huge risk. Luckily it proved to be the target word today. 😊

Wordle #789 (August 17, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.8 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the first two words three possibilities (DAISY, AMISS, ASPIC) of which one not that common (ASPIC). AMISS meets the two key rules – two vowels and one paired/ compound consonant. Also, the letter Y has been used a lot recently -7 times out of 20 or 35%. This is about two times the expected frequency (16.6%). These rules/observation eliminate  DAISY and leave me with AMISS, which happens to the target word. Luckily  the logic worked.😊

Wordle #788 (August 16, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.0 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: Even though the seed word didn’t reveal any vowels, I chose to stay with the 2nd word of the triad.  After the first two guesses, there were three possibilities –  SCRUM, SYRUP, and SCRUB.  In my judgement, SCRUM is the least common word of the three.  I chose SCRUB, since the letter Y has been used very often in the last 15 days.  Luckily it worked. 😊

Wordle #787 (August 15, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.2 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: Since the seed word revealed only one vowel, chose CURIO (3 vowels) as the second word instead of RHINO (2 vowels). After two words 13 possibilities.   I scratched out those words that had the letter Y in them since Y has been overused in the last 15 days. This left me with 10 words. I needed to apply the EnotE© strategy.  I could not come up with one word to serve as the elimination word that would eliminate 9 of the 10 possibilities.  My gutfeel was pointing to INDEX as the target word, so I chose INDEX as the elimination word.  Luckily it worked. 😊

Wordle #786 (August 14, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.1 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the first two words four possibilities (SNAFU, SNAKY, SPAWN and SNACK).  I think SNAFU is the least common of the four words. The most powerful test for a Wordle word is two vowels (including Y), one compound consonant (such as SN), and a Y at the end. This test pointed to SNAKY. Luckily it was the answer. 😊
