Wordle Bulletin – Wordle #437 (August 30, 2022)

Caveat: I am not to be confused with WordleGuru.  I am an average player.  My average “#of guesses required to solve a puzzle” score is pretty similar to that of New York Times’ WordleBot.

Wordle #43
7; August 30, 2022

Overall Summary
Today’s Wordle proved to be one of the easiest one for me, requiring only 3 guesses. The WordleBot score for today’s puzzle is 3.9.  After 2 days of needing 5 guesses to solve, I was due for a better score – regression to the mean (my mean for the last 30 days and 10 days is 3.9)  It is the fastest one, time wise – took me just 1 minute.

Guesses
The first guess was from my go to triad of ALERT/SONIC/PUDGY. ALERT revealed the presence of one vowel – E (not the exact position) and one consonant – T (in the correct position – #5).  Since the odds of having a single vowel are only 1 out of 4, I needed to search for additional vowels.  I reverted to the second word in the ALERT triad, i.e., SONIC.  SONIC revealed the presence of the letters S, O and N, but not in the exact positions.  It didn’t matter though.  There is only one word that contains the five letters – S, O , N, E and T!

Close look with the help of the WordleGuru Microscope
Today’s first guess revealed T in the 5th position.  The probability of T in the 5th position is 13.5% (second only to E, at 18.5%).  The letter E’s position was not revealed though.  Since the 5th position was taken, the next best position for E from frequency perspective is the 4th (13.5%).  Looking at the same from a different perspective, E’s position mix across the five spots is 5%, 18%, 15%, 26% and 36% (#1 thru #5). That is 26% of the time E lands in the 4th position, second only to the 5th position at 36%.

Conclusion
It was a happy morning for me and a great day for WordleGuru!
