Wordle Bulletin – Week of August 7 (8/7-8/13) (#779-#785) – Wordle Guru

Wordle #785 (August 13, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score*: 3.2– Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle:
After the seed word two possibilities (RIATA, and WRATH) one of which is not a very common word (RIATA). The seed word proved its effectiveness today. 😊😊😊😊😊

Wordle #784 (August 12, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.9  – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the first two words from the triad, only 2 possibilities – QUICK and JUICY. Selected QUICK based on 1) usage (10x), 2) 2 vowels (vs 3 vowels), 3) 1 compound consonant – CK (vs none), and 4) of the last 10 Wordles, 4 had a Y (40% vs. 17%) and 3 of the 4 Ys were at the 5th position (30% vs. 13.5%).  Luckily it worked! 😊

Wordle #782 (August 10, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.8  – Triad: SLATE/RHINO//PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the two words from the triad, 3 possibilities – EMPTY, JETTY, and PETTY.  I didn’t think JETTY would be the answer, so it came down to EMPTY versus PETTY. The usage of EMPTY is an order of magnitude higher than that of PETTY. Also, frequency of compound consonants such as MP is much higher than that of duplicated consonants such as TT. Luckily the logic worked in favor of EMPTY. 😊

Wordle #781 (August 9, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.3 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO /PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the two words from the triad, 3 possibilities – LOVER, OLDER, and LOWER.  Didn’t think OLDER (being a comparative word) is the solution.  Frequency data was mixed with no clear-cut winner between the two remaining words.  Went with my gutfeel (LOVER) and it worked.😊

Wordle #780 (August 8, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.3 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO

/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: Since the seed word didn’t disclose any vowels, chose CURIO (3 vowels) instead of RHINO as the second word.  After the second word, there were eight possibilities. I had two hunches – 1) no word starting with a P since recently we had a word with P in the starting and ending positions and 2) the word will begin with a B.  There were two such possibilities – BULKY and BULLY. Based on frequency data, picked BULLY and it worked. 😊

Wordle #779 (August 7, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.7– Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: Since the seed word didn’t reveal any vowels, used CURIO (with 3 vowels) instead of the second word in the triad (RHINO). At this point 21 possibilities. Deployed EnotE© strategy. Could not find a single word to eliminate 20 of the 21 possibilities. Picked one of the possibilities (BROWN) as the elimination word. It eliminated all but 3 orthographic neighbor words (BROOM, BROOK, and BROOD). Gut feel pointed to BROOM, but frequency data pointed to BROOK. Chose the latter.  Luckily it was the answer. 😊
