Wordle Bulletin – Week of August 21 (8/21-8/27) (#793-#799)

Wordle #799 (August 27, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.8 Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: I changed the 2nd word to ACERB instead of RHINO, thinking that there is an A at the beginning of the target word. It proved not to be the case.  However, it narrowed the choice to just 2 words – CHAFE and PEACE.  CHAFE is not a commonly used word, so I picked PEACE and it proved to be the target word. 😊

Wordle #798 (August 26, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.4 Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle:  After 2 words only 1 possibility.   Changed the second word to IRONY based upon the fact that none of the letters in SLATE were revealed. RHINO would have been as effective today, but we didn’t know apriori.

Wordle #797 (August 25, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.6 Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: Since the seed word revealed 2 vowels, didn’t need to search for additional vowels.  Therefore, used a different word (CANER), not the 2nd word of the triad (RHINO). After two words, two possibilities – OCEAN, and PECAN.  Usage and gutfeel pointed to OCEAN; frequency pointed to PECAN.  Chose OCEAN.  It proved to be the right choice.

Wordle #796 (August 24, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.1 Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: Used all three words of the triad.  After the third word, three  possibilities – DOWRY, WORDY, and DORKY.  All 3 words satisfied my two rules (2 vowels inc. Y and 1 compound consonant). Letter frequency wise the three words were pretty close to each other. Keeping the recent emphasis on low-frequency letters in mind I ignored DORKY.  Between DOWRY and WORDY, I preferred WORDY since the letter “W”, if present in a word, 45% of the time it is in the 1st position.  Luckily the logic worked.😊

Wordle #795 (August 23, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 5.1; Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After two words, 9 possibilities. Deployed the EnotE© strategy.  My gut feel was driving me towards VERVE (since it has a low frequency letter V, in fact 2 instances!), but this was not a good elimination word.  I chose CURVE instead and it did the job. 😊

Wordle #794 (August 22, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.9 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After two words, four possibilities – SEIZE, SPICE, SPIKE, and SWIPE.  Except for SEIZE, the rest satisfy my two rules (2 vowels and 1 compound consonant). SPICE and SPIKE meet the conditions for a good elimination word.  From a frequency point of view SPICE comes out ahead and that’s what I chose as the third word.  It proved to be the target word. 😊

Wordle #793 (August 21, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.5 – Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the seed word that disclosed two vowels, I didn’t need to search for additional vowels.  Therefore, I used CHURN instead of RHINO as the 2nd word. After two words, two possibilities – BEACH, and PEACH. Frequency and usage data pointed towards BEACH and that’s what I used. Turned out to be the right choice. 😊
