Wordle bulletin – Week of September 25 (9/25-10/1) (#828-#834)

Wordle #834 (October 1, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.0
Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: For the second guess, I chose a different word (CHURN) than the second word of the triad (RHINO). At this point 10+ possibilities. Used an elimination word that included the letters E and T in order to determine their exact locations.  After the third guess only one possible solution. 😊

Instead of CHURN, TENET would have been a better guess. It would have allowed me to solve in 3.

Wordle #833 (September 30, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.8
Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: after the seed word, I didn’t use the second word of the triad. Instead, I used. CRONY. The reason being the seed word only revealed one vowel whereas most of the Wordle words have two vowels. At this point there were more than 10 possible solutions. For the third guess I chose the third word of the triad as the elimination word. At this point only two possibilities. Relied on usage frequency to pick between the two. Luckily it worked. 😊

Very few Wordle words have 3 instances of the same letter.  The other one that comes to mind is SISSY.

Wordle #832 (September 29, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.2
Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s wordle: After the seed word, I didn’t use the 2nd word of the triad.   Instead, I used CHURN.  The reason for picking CHURN is it allows for discovery of 4 high frequency consonants. More than 50% of WORDLE words have only two vowels. One strategy could be to try to find out the exact position of A using the second word. The probability for A in one of the three open spots is 1/3. So, comparing the two options, I opted for the first one. After that only one possible solution. 😊

Wordle #831 (September 28, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.7
Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics For today’s wordle: went back to SLATE as the seed word.  Given that only one vowel was revealed by the seed word, used IRONY instead of RHINO (the 2nd word of the triad) as the second guess.  At this point there were two possibilities. Used frequency data to select one from the two. Luckily it proved to be the answer.😊

Wordle #830 (September 27, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.4
Triad: SOARE/CLINT/GLYPH

Tactics for today’s Wordle: I changed the first two words today to SOARE and CLINT. After these two words only one possible solution. Incidentally, today the seed word SLATE would have yielded a 2!  Wordle is a game of chance and skill!

Wordle #829 (September 26, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 4.1
Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: After the first two words of the triad, 11 possibilities. Considered four of the 11 to be more likely. Among the four, there was one word with the letter Y. Wordle is favorably disposed to the letter Y (appears in one out of 6 words on an average. Took a chance with that word and it proved to be the Target word. 😊

Wordle #828 (September 25, 2023) – NY Times WordleBot score: 3.7
Triad: SLATE/RHINO/PUDGY

Tactics for today’s Wordle: Seed word followed by an alternate second word since seed word didn’t reveal any letters. At this point 9 possibilities. Picked one of the nine as an elimination word. It eliminated six of the nine. From the remaining three picked based on frequency and usage.  Lucky to be out with a 4.
