Wordle bulletin – Week of November 27, ‘23 (11/27-12/3) (#891-#897)

Wordle #897 (December 3, 2023)
NY Times WordleBot average score: 3.6

Today’s tactics: the seed word was reasonably effective. At this point there were 15 possible solutions. My goal with the second word was to confirm the position of T and search for additional letters. I chose THAWT as the second guess. It wasn’t very effective. I still had 6 possibilities. So the goal for the third guess was to eliminate as many of the six as possible. I could not find one single word that would eliminate five of the six, so I chose the second best- PLANT.   Luckily did the job.

Wordle #896 (December 2, 2023)
NY Times WordleBot average score: 4.0

Today’s tactics: after the seed word, seven possibilities. My gut feel drove me towards three of the seven – CHORE, INURE, and WHERE. I chose CHORE as the second guess based upon frequency. It proved to be the wrong choice, but it eliminated the other two.😊

Wordle #895 (December 1, 2023)
NY Times WordleBot average score: 3.8

Today’s tactics: The seed word was reasonably effective since it revealed the presence of three letters – T, A and E, but not their positions. The objective of the second word was to confirm the positions of the 3 letters revealed by the seed word. and reveal two additional letters. I deployed a combination of the DiscY© and PCon© strategies by choosing CHEAT as the second guess. It too was not very helpful since it did not confirm the positions of any of the three letters, neither did it reveal any additional letters. At this point in time there were 13 solutions. I had to deploy EnotE© strategy. I picked EATEN as the elimination word. It did its job.

Wordle #894 (November 30, 2023)
NY Times WordleBot average score: 3.5

Today’s tactics: The seed word was effective since it revealed three letters (but not their positions).  The objective of the second guess was 1) to confirm the positions of the three letters and 2) reveal two remaining letters.  I deployed a combination of DiscY© and PCon© strategies, by choosing USHER as the 2nd guess. It was of marginal help since it didn’t confirm any of the positions or reveal any new letters. At this point in time, six possibilities REOIL, RESOW, RESIN, DRESS, and PRESS. The frequency of Wordle words ending in SS is fairly small. I chose RESIN from the three remaining possibilities based on usage date.  Luckily it worked. 😊

Wordle #893 (November 29, 2023)
NY Times WordleBot average score: 4.1

Today’s tactics: the seed word was moderately effective as it revealed the letter S in the 1st position. At this stage 81 possibilities left. Needed to enter a DiscY© word as the second guess to reveal the remaining 4 letters. I chose CHOLI, since the compound consonant SH is the most frequent compound consonant with S in the first position. It did the job.

Wordle #892 (November 28, 2023)
NY Times WordleBot average score: 3.7

Today’s tactics: The seed word at first glance appeared to be very effective, since it revealed the presence of the bookend letters S and E. However, there were still 32 possibilities.  The job of the second guess was to reveal additional letters. I chose LINGO for that purpose. Four possibilities still remained – SPOKE, SMOKE, SCOPE, and SHOVE. At this stage I needed to deploy the EnotE© strategy.  I used CHAMP as the elimination word. It did the job.

Wordle #891 (November 27, 2023)
NY Times WordleBot average score: 4.2

Today’s tactics: The seed word revealed the letters T and A but not their positions. The objective of the second guess was to confirm the positions of these two letters and at the same time look for three additional letters. Wordle uses the six lowest frequency letters (W, V, Z, X, Q, and J) once every five games. So the ideal second word would be one that satisfies the position confirmation requirement and includes one of these six letters. Today there were at least two choices – VAUNT and TAWNY. Since the letter Y in the fifth position is quite common (about once every 8 games), TAWNY was the choice. Luckily the PCon/DiscY© word was the answer. This is like winning a lottery. The odds are very small. 😊 😊 😊 😊 😊
