Wordle Bulletin #709 (May 29, 2023) — “Can’t avoid 4s – regression to the mean!”
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: MOUSE (Non-Typical – 3 vowels, 0 compound/ paired consonants) [typical – 2 vowels, 1 compound/paired consonant]
# Of Guesses: 3.8 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru ☹
Seed Word: ROATE: first word of the triad – ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
What we learned from the Seed Word: two vowels O and E in the 2nd and 5th positions respectively.
2nd Word: CLONS: Since most of the Wordle words have two vowels, I decided to not search for additional vowels. Instead, I chose to test the presence of four high frequency consonants (C, L, N, S). At this stage 6 possible answers including 2 sets of orthographic neighbor words – [HOUSE, MOUSE, SOUSE], [FOSSE, POSSE], and POISE. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
3rd Word: HUMID: I chose HUMID as the elimination word. It did the job perfectly, leading me to the target word of MOUSE. 😊
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was not a factor.
