Wordle Bulletin #699 (May19, 2023) — “A battle between 3 and 4!”
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: GRIEF (Typical – 2 vowels, 1 compound consonant)
# Of Guesses: 4 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru
Seed Word: ROATE: first word of the triad – ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
What we learned from the Seed Word: Presence of 1 vowel (E) and 1 consonant (R), but not their positions. Since most of the Wordle words have 2 vowels, we needed to search for additional vowels.
2nd Word: SULCI: 2nd word of the triad. It revealed the presence of a vowel (I) but not its position. At this stage 20+ possibilities, including several orthographic neighbor word sets. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
3rd Word: NYMPH: No single word could eliminate all the possibilities except one. I chose NYMPH as an elimination word. It was not very effective. I was left with 10 words to deal with – BIKER, [BRIEF, GRIEF], [GIVER, DIVER], FIBER, WIDER, BRIER, DRYER, and WEIRD.
4th Word: GRIEF: I like to pick one of the possibilities as an elimination word. Again, there was no single word to eliminate 9 of the 10 possibilities, so it came down to the best alternative. I had two words in mind – GRIEF and BRIEF. Luckily the one I chose proved to be the right one. Luck was on my side. 😊
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was in my corner. I won the coin toss. 😊 😊
