Wordle Bulletin #685 (May 5, 2023) — “Cinco de Mayo – my lucky day! 😊”
Note: Today is the 10th day of using the tried-and-true triad — ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: BELOW
# Of Guesses: 4.1 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 3 for WordleGuru. 😊
Seed Word: ROATE: first word of the triad – ROATE/SULCI/NYMPH.
What we learned from the Seed Word: presence of two vowels (O and E) but not their exact locations.
2nd Word: CLANS: Since the seed word had revealed the presence of 2 vowels and majority of the Wordle words have 2 vowels, the priority was to determine if the next 4 high frequency consonants were in the target word. For this reason, I chose CLANS as the second word, not the second word of the triad (SULCI).
3rd Word: BELOW: After the 2nd word, four possibilities remained – BELOW, ELBOW, [HELLO, JELLO]! The letter frequency, position mix of the first letter, and usage data all pointed to BELOW. I had a dilemma whether to go with BELOW or not. It would not have eliminated both HELLO and JELLO. Also, the probability of 2 copies of the same consonant (today LL) is less than 5%. This too pointed towards BELOW (or ELBOW). So, I went with BELOW. Luckily for me it worked. 😊
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was on my side. 😊
