Wordle Bulletin #637 (March 18, 2023) — “Dxxm! 5 Orthographic neighbor words!”
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: YACHT
# Of Guesses: 3.8 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 4 for WordleGuru ☹
Typical or atypical target word? — Typical, it contains 2 vowels (A and Y) and one compound consonant (3 consonants – CHT). The “norm” is 2 vowels and 1 compound/paired consonant.
Seed Word: STARE – The “go-to” seed word starting March 8, 2023.
What we learned from the Seed Word: The seed word revealed 2 letters – T and A without revealing their positions. Too many possibilities at this stage. Need more discovery.
2nd word: CHOIL (2nd word of the triad STARE/CHOIL/PUDGY): It revealed C and H but not their positions. At this point there were 6 possibilities with 5 orthographic neighbor words [BATCH, HATCH, PATCH, MATCH, and WATCH] and YACHT. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
3rd word: WIMPY – I could not come up with a single word to eliminate 5 of the 6 possibilities. Had to use a less optimal word. I chose WIMPY. It proved to be lucky, since it confirmed the only word with a Y, i.e., YACHT.
Final Thoughts: Wordle is a game of luck and skill. Sometimes luck favors the game and sometimes it favors the player. Today luck was on my side.
