Wordle Bulletin # 616 (February 25, 2023) — “Regression to the mean continues unabated!”
My score’s regression to the mean continues, unabated. I am not meeting my aspirational goals. ☹
Today’s Wordle:
Target Word: FIFTY
# Of Guesses: 4.5 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*, 5 for WordleGuru. ☹
Typical or atypical target word? — Typical, it contains 2 vowels (I and Y) and 1 compound consonant (FT) The “norm” is 2 vowels and 1 compound/paired consonant.
Seed Word: ALERT – “go-to” seed word.
What we learned from the Seed Word: The seed word revealed only one letter (T), but not its position.
2nd word: SONIC (the “go-to” 2nd word); It revealed the presence of I but not its position. 12 possibilities at this stage. Time to deploy the EnotE© strategy.
3rd word: WIDTH; could not come up with a word to eliminate 11 of the 12 possibilities. The presence of orthographic neighbor words makes things a whole lot more challenging. Used the 2nd best alternative -WIDTH. After the 3rd word I was left with 5 possibilities — [BITTY, JITTY, KITTY, ZITTY] and FIFTY. As you can see, 4 of the 5 possibilities are orthographic neighbor words. Needed one more round of EnotE© deployment.
4th word: FLICK; Luckily for me, it eliminated all but FIFTY – the answer.
