Wordle Bulletin # 505 (November 6, 2022)

My strategy is built to ensure I solve 95% of the puzzles in 4 guesses or less. It is not built to always shoot for the lowest score possible. The score depends a lot on the seed word. Wordle is a game of luck and skill.

Target Word: STALE
Typical Wordle Word Construct
: 2 Vowels and one compound/paired consonant (2 letters or 3 letters; seen with >50% frequency)
Today’s Wordle Word Construct: Typical; 2 Vowels (E and A), One compound consonant (ST)
# Of Guesses:  3.0 WordleBot average per Marc McLaren*; 4 for WordleGuru

Seed Word: STORE; I am rotating the seed word among my go-to words with two vowels. These are. ALERT/LATER /ALTER (anagrams), SALET/LEAST, ROAST, LOSER, STORE, and TIRES/TIERS
Seed Word Revelations: 2 consonant (S and T) and 1 vowel (E) and their exact positions 😊

# Of Possible Solutions after the seed word: 8; six of the 8 are orthographic neighbor words [STALE, STEAK, STATE, STAVE, STAGE, STADE], STILE, and STYLE.

Second Word
: RACKS; Since the seed word revealed the presence of only 1 vowel, I needed to search for additional vowel(s).  At the same time, since the possible words were only 8, it was time to deploy the EnotE strategy. I chose DAILY as the elimination word.  It did the job and led me to the target word – STALE.

EnotE (Eliminate-not-Enumerate) Strategy deployment: Deployed right after the seed word.

Final thoughts:  Wordle is a game of luck and skill. So much depends on the seed word.  Today any anagram of ALERT would have solved the puzzle in two guesses. The same can be said for the anagrams of LEAST. For the really lucky ones, STALE as an anagram of LEAST would have solved in one. This puzzle reinforces two themes number, 1) seed words matter a lot and 2) it’s a game of luck and skill.
